A new Shopify store gets its first sales by doing two things well: driving targeted traffic from people who actually want the product, and making the store so trustworthy and easy that buying feels safe. Nail both and the first sales come.
Almost every new store owner builds the store, hits launch, and waits. The mistake is assuming that publishing a store creates demand. It does not. A brand new store has no traffic, no trust, and no ranking, so nobody knows it exists yet.
With no audience yet, you have to go get one. Meta ads are great for discovery and visual products, while Google Shopping catches people actively searching to buy. Start small and specific, you are trying to learn which product, audience, and message actually get people to click and buy.
A first time visitor to an unknown store is nervous, and rightly so. Professional photos, clear product descriptions, obvious shipping and return info, and a secure, familiar checkout all signal that you are a real business worth trusting with a credit card.
Start with the people who already know you: friends, family, your social following, and local Facebook groups. A genuine post explaining what you built usually outperforms a polished ad to strangers, because it comes with built in trust. Short videos, micro influencers, and community involvement all drive qualified visitors at little or no cost.
Once orders start coming in, set up email and text flows so first time buyers come back, ask happy customers for reviews, and double down on whichever product and audience produced sales. First sales are the experiment, consistent sales are the system.
